Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow - but maybe not yet!!!!

Well its nearly here and I have been busy doing my Christmas Shopping (still some presents to get) but Saturday morning this was what greeted me from my bedroom window,

so we are a little bit stranded as they don’t clear country lanes! I know it looks pretty but I need to get out and I am a little worried that my boys won’t be able to get here. The OH says I am panicking and he is probably right I am sure it will all turn out okay in the end.

Finished decorating the home – I have been busy making this bunting, really pleased with it – I haven’t bought any new decorations this year just made them and I am very pleased with them all if I say so myself!

not too good a photo but I have cross stiched HAPPY CHRISTMAS on it
not quite like the magazine!!
Had some very disappointing news this week, my sister Diane is unable to visit me for the new year celebrations and I was so looking forward to being with her as haven’t seen her during the Christmas time for nearly 10 years now, perhaps one day I will.

Well its back to the kitchen - now whats on my list to do today – stolen, cranberry sauce, brandy butter, ice the cake, better get started Cd player is at the ready to keep me going I don’t know about you but one of my favourite carols is In the Bleak Midwinter whats yours? I also love The Pretenders singing 2000 miles. It really reminds me of my boys when they were little we were always playing it!

At this time of year there is something else that I love to make on Christmas Eve and that is a lovely Champagne cocktail, its one part limoncello to one part orange liquor and then topped up with Chanpagne or Prosecco, gorgeous!! Try it if you dare!

I don’t know whether I will have time to blog before Christmas so I would love to send you all a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS and enjoy all the festivities and being with friends and family.

  1. Hi Jill,

I just wrote you a long comment and then my cat somehow managed to delete it with one swipe of his paw....I'll start again.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister - you'll have to think of somethig especially special to do together next year.

Your bunting is gorgeous - what a great idea to have Christmas bunting!

I love 2000 Miles too - in fact, I am starting to think I love ALL Christmas music!

    Merry Christmas, lovely Jill.

  4. Hi Jill
I love your Christmas bunting, it's very effective. You can't beat red and white can you?
I'm sorry the snow is causing some concern for you - but it really will be okay by the end of the week and the family will be able to reach you for a jolly Christmastime.
Wow you're busy in the kitchen! How lovely.
As for songs - my favourite modern Christmas song is the Greg Lake "I believe in Father Christmas". As for carols - I love them all but Hark the herald angels ... and Once in Royal David's City never fail to bring tears to my eyes! Tears of joy, that is!
Happy Christmas to you too, if we don't meet in blogland again this week, I hope you have lots of fun and good times with the family.

  6. Dear Jill,
I agree with you - the snow we are having is pretty, but for loved ones to reach us, please could the weather Gods hold it for a few days?!

Sorry to hear you will not be able to see your sister and we hope you can meet up soon.

Lovely bunting and hanging a few baubles at different heights from a chandelier looks so nice.

I wish you a lovely Christmas (fingers crossed for roads to be cleared!) and would like to thank you for all your kind words of encouragement this year - seeing your photo pop up in the comment row always makes me happy.

    Love from Helena

Fingers crossed it all works out...

  11. That cocktail sounds wonderful Jill - might give it a whirl! I love your bunting and your home looks so Christmassy, especially with the snow (although I know what a pain it can be when you need to get out - we haven't got much at the mo but its horribly cold). Im sorry you cant see your sister, it seems we are in the same boat as this year my sister and her family have an awful bug and we are missing them too. I hope you and your family have a good Christmas though, and I will look forward to catching up with your lovely blog in the New Year!!!

  12. Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones.
We have been snowed in too for the last few days and like you said it has come a bit too early as there is shopping to be done and family travelling to stay with us for Christmas - let's hope they get the roads cleared!

  14. Dear Jill,

What a lovely view you have. So English! It reminds me of the cottage we rented this year nearby Bath. I hope your sons will be back in time for the Christmas celebrations. Good luck with the cooking & baking!

A Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    Lieve groet Madelief

  15. Jill, your home looks lovely. Stylish and under-stated for Christmas - just how I like it in my cottage too. I saw the headstones from your bedroom window view and then I remembered that you do live in Church Cottage!! It looks beautiful in the snow.

My favourite carol is also Bleak Midwinter - it has a solemn quality but is lovely to sing. I hope you get to see your sons for Christmas and I understand about you feeling sad not to see your sister for Christmas. It is the same with me. My sister and I rarely spend Christmas together but we hope to see each other at some point over the holidays.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
